Despite a ton of big tech company layoffs, the market for well-trained design & product professionals is extremely tight.
What can you do if you’re looking to hire?
- Accept it will take time
- Look for contract resources (which comes with its own challenges)
Or, you can find that rookie with huge potential and level them up to a starter. (#jalenhurts)
All you need is a special teams coordinator.
Over 2021-22, I was lucky enough to play “UX/Product” coordinator when a B2C SaaS software company lost their Senior UX Designer 6 weeks ahead of a massive partnership and product launch.
We had to efficiently complete designs and launch multiple landing pages leading to a custom sign-up experience.
For one hour a week, I coached the marketing team member (who had a UX certificate) as she delivered the project.
✅ Launched on time!
✅ Within the first week, the company reached 22% of its 6-week goal for new paid sign-ups
✅ Better yet, the new sign-up experience converted paid customers at 2.8x higher rate than the company’s existing experience
Yet, the company was still out a Senior UX Designer and had no idea how long it would take to find the right person.
Guess what? It took 8 MONTHS.
In the meantime, I continued to coach, train and advise the teammate who stepped up. We could call her Brock Purdy-esque, but that’d be an insult after last night’s performance. #gobirds
The company not only got an immediate impact from my coaching but were able to tackle big UX/Product projects in the interim.
